Physical Education

PE (Physical Education) combines practical physical activity with the study of aspects of the discipline and builds key skills such as team work, communication skills, leadership, analysis and assessment and social skills.

Physical Education is a core subject for all pupils in the First, Second and Third Form (Years 7, 8 and 9). They learn about health related exercise, physical competency, motor & movement skill development, badminton, basketball, volleyball, athletics, tennis, swimming and short tennis.

The GCSE course provides an opportunity to study both the practical and theoretical aspects of Physical Education. It is also designed to foster enjoyment in physical activity. The knowledge gained enables pupils to develop an understanding of effective and safe physical performance.

The A Level PE course (AQA) explores different factors affecting participation in sport as well as how optimal performance is achieved in Sport.  It is a natural progression from GCSE PE and the key topics areas covered are physiology, biomechanics, skill acquisition, sports psychology, sport and society and technology in sport.

All five lessons for A Level PE are taught in the classroom, at the end of the two years students will sit two exams papers which equates to 70% of their grade. The final 30% comes from their practical performance in one sport.
