Fabulous Art Exhibitions

Back

It has been an extremely busy fortnight in the Art department with our two major exhibitions only days apart.

A feast of creative delights started with the A Level and GCSE Exhibition bringing together Fine Art, Graphics and Photography in a tremendous show that was the result of real dedication and originality by both the GCSE and A Level artists and designers. The studios were a riot of colour and the external moderators commented on the huge range of ideas and approaches that the students had brought to their work. A true reflection of our core values of independence and curiosity and a fair amount of resilience during their 10 and 15 hour exams respectively!

Not to be outdone, The Close House Art Competition took place next. Retiring History teacher, Paul Davies, and his wife, Sue, were invited to judge the flocks of ceramic birds, marine pots, landscapes, and lino prints produced by the First and Second Form pupils. The winners were Ollie Holden (First Form) for his bird collage, and Wilfred Saywel (Second Form) for his marine pot. Audience members of the House Drama evening were also invited to vote for their favourite pieces and this resulted in Josh Clapp (First Form) and Anthony Matteen (Second Form) winning a prize. The overall House winner was Royal Wanstead.
