Celebrating excellent results for A Levels in 2017

Back

It has been an extremely happy morning here at Reed’s School as our students made a record increase in grades from their AS Level positions to receive an excellent set of results in their A Level exams. Grades from A* to B remained at around 75%, the same as previous years, with grades at A*/A marching up to the 40% level and A*- C grades are at 93%.

This year sees a record of seven students from Reed’s going on to prestigious colleges in the United States, including Princeton, Berkeley, Swarthmore and UCSD (University of California in San Diego).
Twenty five pupils achieved at least 3 A*/A grades with Chloe Hurton, Cameron Fleming and Sam Teed all gaining straight A* grades. Chloe will go to UCL to read English, Cameron will study Medicine at Cardiff and Sam will be studying Architecture.

Lauren Smith and Seb Bonner achieved their places at Medical School and Alana Collett’s two A*s and one A grade allowed her to achieve her place at Loughborough. Tara Stanley and Kezia Clarke (who both got one A* and two A grades), will read Psychology at Exeter and Geography at Leeds. Another student who was thrilled with his results was Will Morrice who gained two A*s and two A grades and is going on to study Natural Science at Durham.

Headmaster, Mark Hoskins, commented “In the context of the changes to A Levels nationally, the A Level results at Reed’s this year have exceeded all our predications with an impressive haul of grades across all subject areas. Especially pleasing is the record increase in grades from AS Level positions - testament to the students’ hard work and the support of our excellent staff. The vast majority of Reed’s pupils will be attending their first choice courses and universities and it never ceases to amaze me when I look at the range of different courses that our students will go on to study. This was Reed’s School’s largest ever Sixth Form cohort and I am proud of their academic successes and also the contribution they made to the School in so many different ways. As they move onto the next phase of their lives I am sure that they will also uphold the values of Reed’s and be inspired by the example of the School’s Founder Andrew Reed who founded Reed’s as a school for orphans in 1813. This will be the case particularly for our Foundation pupils, who once again excelled.”

Grades achieved overall were as follows:

A*/A grades     40%

A*-B grades     75%

A*-C grades     93%

A*-E grades    100%
