Parents are encouraged to be fully involved in the life and community of the School. Opportunities for socializing and fundraising for special projects are coordinated by the Friends of Reed’s School (FORS) assisted by the Parent Links in each year group.
The main objective of FORS is to organise social events where parents can meet and enjoy themselves and experience the sense of community which is at the heart of the School. We usually hold one or two events per term and the money we raise is used to fund special projects which are not usually catered for within School or departmental budgets. Events vary from the ever-popular Christmas Fair to the Quiz Night and a Summer get-together. For details of previous and forthcoming FORS events please visit our events page.
So far this year FORS has approved funding for two projects - to buy new books and DVDs for the Modern Languages department and to help fund the FutureCareers Evening in March.
Last year FORS funded the purchase of staging for the Drama department, a donation towards the digitalisation of the Reed’s School Archive, an update of the sound system for the School Chapel, a flagpole and flag for the cricket pavilion, replacement starting blocks for the swimming pool, a sound mixer for the Ensemble Room and movable LED lighting for the Drama Department.
In previous years their funds helped to provide a TIG Welder for the FutureTech building, timing lights for Toastmasters, a fast fold projection screen for the Assembly Hall, a sports shelter for PE/Rugby, a £2,000 contribution towards the new Steinway Grand Piano, a camera for photographing school sports, branded netball post protectors, a video camera for the Drama Department and Sat Navs for the school minibuses.
To contact us, please write to FORS c/o Reed's School or pop a letter in the FORS Box at Reception. Alternatively you can email the Chair, Sarah McCormack.
Parent Link at Reed's promotes formal and informal social contact between parents, especially for those new to the School, and provides support for School events. At least two parents from each year group act as Reps to help achieve this. Every new parent is telephoned and welcomed into the School within the first few weeks of term and regular, informal year group events are organised for parents to attend during the year.
The Parent Link co-ordinator is Tina Sharp. Please contact her by email, with any queries or if you'd like further information on becoming a Parent Link Year Group Rep.
