Academic Results

2013

Over a quarter of the students taking A levels in 2013 at Reed’s scored a clean sweep of A*/A grades for all of their exams. 81% of the entries by Upper Sixth Form students obtained A*, A and B grades, and the School also continued to achieve the overall 100% pass rate for A Levels that they have enjoyed in recent years. 13% of the entries gained an A* grade, well above the national average; 51% gained an A* or A grade.  Subjects deserving special mention for consistently high achieving students include: English Literature, Mathematics, Graphic Design & Photography. Numbers sitting the traditionally harder Maths and Science A Levels carry on rising and the results here continue to impress. More importantly the vast majority of students gained places at their chosen university for their course of preference.

Excellent GCSE results were recorded with 54% of entries being awarded A* and A grades. A quarter of the year group gained at least 7 GCSEs at A* or A grades and all students at the school passed at least five GCSEs in A* - C grades. The majority of boys took 9 subjects with an overall average of 8.8 passes each. Five students gained a clean sweep of 8 A* grades. The School has switched in some subjects to the more challenging IGCSE examinations - and in a year of tightening of grading this was a very good performance. I am certain we were right to make the switch to IGCSE in selected areas; evidence suggests that our pupils now have more choice as they opt for thier GCSE subjects and they are better equipped to tackle A Level subjects (particularly Science) having undergone IGCSEs.
