Girls’ Cricket starts well with a win in their first tournament of the season

Back

The girls’ 1st XI had been eagerly awaiting their first competitive fixtures of the year after enjoying several months training in the Cricket Centre. Teams from Ibstock Place and KGS came to Reed’s for an 8 over/side triangular tournament.

Captain, Lauren Avery, lost the toss against KGS who decided to field first, a decision which didn’t seem to faze the powerful Reed’s batting line-up, with Brydie Ault and Lauren Avery putting their bowlers to the sword. It rained boundaries and the Headmaster’s windows were in real danger as the girls posted 87 from 8 overs. In reply, the Reed’s bowling attack worked well together to restrict KGS to 51 with wickets for Emily Strong, Livvie Conboy and Hennie Owen.

Ibstock beat KGS in the second game which left the two unbeaten teams to face each other in the final game of the day which followed a similar path to the first. Batting first, Lauren Avery and Alice O’Hagan crunched boundary after boundary to help post a score of 78. In reply, Hennie Owen and Phoebe Schoefield bowled with pace and aggression to break Ibstock’s opening partnership; however, Sasha Crockett steamed in to knock their most experienced player’s middle stump out of the ground to seal the victory for Reed’s!

On the whole a really enjoyable afternoon with some genuine moments of excellence which blended well with the occasional run-out errors.
