British School of Etiquette: Manners Maketh…

Back

Pupils in the Fourth Form were involved in a series of workshops run by the British School of Etiquette. The workshops focussed on four key elements: first impressions, body language, growth mindset and interview skills. The pupils were taken through their paces on how to make a good first impression.

The head principal who ran the workshops, Philip Sykes, challenged pupils to speak up, amplify their voices and say their names with pride to make a lasting impression. He engaged with every pupil and reminded the boys that they are ‘one person and one opportunity away from changing their lives’. Mr Sykes told the pupils that a good handshake is equivalent to three hours of rapport building. He also discussed the importance of being kind to one another and how this is inextricably linked to a positive mindset.

There was also a segment on ‘netiquette’ - online etiquette - which is becoming increasingly important as our pupils create their own digital footprints. The feedback received from the pupils has been really positive; in particular, they enjoyed the section on body language and interview skills.
