Activities and the Andrew Reed Award
At Reed’s, co-curricular life is an essential part of the broad educational experience we offer. Pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide variety of activities developing interests, building friendships, and gaining valuable life skills beyond the classroom.
Opportunities are wide – ranging from sport, music, drama, and academic clubs to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Combined Cadet Force. There are also a variety of more unusual opportunities such as Scale Model Club, Climbing, Enterprise for Good, Pétanque and Darts as we pride ourselves on being able to find interests that each of our pupils enjoy and gain confidence from.
The programme changes each term and it’s expected that pupils in the First to Fourth Forms (Years 7–10) take part in at least three activities each week, while those in Fifth and Sixth Forms (Years 11–13) choose a minimum of two.

The Andrew Reed Award
To celebrate this vibrant co-curricular life, our Director of Activities has introduced the Andrew Reed Award. Named after our founder, Rev. Andrew Reed, it reflects his values of service, character, and holistic education.
The award encourages pupils to participate widely and step outside their comfort zones whilst tracking their personal progress. It values effort and growth as much as achievement, ensuring that every pupil can be recognised for their resilience and curiosity.
As pupils progress through the programme they are encouraged to take on meaningful leadership roles - mentoring younger pupils, organising events and contributing to school life. These experiences help to nurture responsibility, independence, and resilience, helping them develop skills that will serve them long after they leave Reed’s.
In essence, the Andrew Reed Award recognises pupils who fully embrace the rich experiences Reed’s has to offer.
BRONZE AWARD
The Bronze Award recognises pupils in The Close who show curiosity and a willingness to try new things by engaging in a broad range of co-curricular activities. It celebrates enthusiasm, exploration, and the first steps towards becoming an active, well-rounded learner.
SILVER AWARD
The Silver Award builds upon the foundations of the Bronze Award by recognising pupils who continue to explore new interests while showing greater commitment and involvement. It highlights participation in service activities and reflects growing character, responsibility, and a willingness to contribute to the school and wider community.
GOLD AWARD
The Gold Award is a step up from the Silver Award, recognising pupils who demonstrate sustained commitment, increased participation, and a significant contribution to a school team or group. It celebrates those who show initiative and maturity by developing leadership skills and taking responsibility for leading or organising an activity. The Gold Award reflects a high level of engagement, personal growth, and a strong contribution to the wider life of the school.
