International Women's Day

In March 2021 we marked International Women’s Day by celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe, and also marking a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Three of our outstanding school prefects: Maya Barton, Amaan Arif and Adam Spencer delivered a thought-provoking talk in Assembly asking students to reflect on the importance of International Women’s Day; their own experiences in challenging gender stereotypes and the need for us to challenge bias and inequality in all forms.

A wider team of Upper Sixth Prefects also flexed their creative muscles to devise activities for tutors of all year groups to use throughout the week – activities ranged from drawing a woman who has inspired you, to exploring language associated with gender, to reflecting on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED talk: ‘We should all be feminists’.

Staff also took part in promoting #ChooseToChallenge as a way of recognising the everyday problems of gender inequality faced by women & girls.
