The Academic Scholars' Dinner this week celebrated the inaugural presentation of the Epicureans Awards, for Scholars who have excelled (in a very competitive field!) in a range of academic pursuits across the year. Director of Scholars, Dr McLaughlin, congratulated all the Scholars for continuing to forge new intellectual horizons at Reed’s!
Excitingly, they also launched the first edition of The Epicurean, a student-produced academic journal showcasing a stunning range of peer-reviewed intellectual prowess.
We are immensely proud of the structures that we have in place to promote academia throughout the school - the opportunities for challenge and enrichment offered, both in and outside the classroom, are second to none.

We're never quite sure who enjoys the Colour Run more - the pupils or the staff! Before school exam season got underway pupils across the school took part in this annual fun event to raise money for the House Charities. One of the largest ever entries with 250 pupils enjoying the run whilst having paint thrown at them en route by Heads of Houses. Overall it raised an incredible £2,600 for the Rainbow Trust, Momentum, Refuge, Hascombe Ward Trust Fund and Marie Curie!

The Model United Nations (MUN) hosted an internal conference this week - which 6 of our pupiols took part in - debating the topic "The Question of Enhancing Global Security to Prevent Cyberwarfare".
Delegates worked tirelessly to negotiate Russia’s resolution while honing their public speaking skills. The debate was chaired by Sam C (L6), who ensured that discussions remained productive and respectful. They engaged in meaningful dialogue and developed critical problem-solving abilities.
Kiyan L (L6) made excellent points while questioning the position of Liam A (L6). The resolution passed with one amendment, which was excellently proposed by Gabby P (L6). Jacob M (3rd Form) won the award for Best Delegate - a great achievement for his first conference!

Students in the Law Society, run by Mrs Townsend, enjoyed an insightful and educational trip to Kingston Crown Court. They learnt how a typical trial is run, where each person sits in a court room and the different roles of everyone involved.
Some students got to see a defendant being sworn in before giving evidence, whilst others watched a police officer and prosecutor read out a police interview that outlined the nature of the crime. They also watched video evidence being presented in court, providing a realistic view of how trials are conducted.
The experience gave a valuable glimpse into the workings of the legal system and what a career in law might entail.

Historians in the Lower Sixth took part in a debate to decide History's Greatest Battle. They faced a panel of History judges more fearsome to face than a phalanx of Alexander the Great's infantry! Having drawn up their plan of attack beforehand, each student was allotted three minutes to present their argument before the debate turned into a fierce melee when the judges and members of the audience were allowed to thrust their questions in.
These were parried with aplomb and there were counter-attacks galore raging back and forth across the debating chamber. A truly entertaining and erudite event! Polls are now open for their peers to vote for the student who made the best case for their battle. Will Agincourt finally have met its Waterloo? Will Stalingrad sink the Spanish Armada? To the victor shall go the spoils when the results are announced next week!

Weekends at Reed's are often full of extra curricular activities for our pupils - all part of building independence & resilience.
Last weekend, groups of 3rd & 4th Forms (yrs 9&10) enjoyed Bronze and Silver DofE Practice Expeditions - valuable learning experiences, giving the boys a real taste of what’s to come in their assessed expeditions next month.
Cadets in the CCF attended Exercise Steel Talon at the Hankley Common training ground where they engaged in a variety of activities, focusing on stealth patrolling, team tactics, navigation, and setting up their own bashas in the harbour area.
