Running the London Marathon for the Foundation

Back

It is said that: “Ordinary people know their limits. Marathon runners know how to push them.”  And that is definitely the case for all our friends and colleagues who ran in the record-breaking heat in the London Marathon.

It was truly awe inspiring that Old Reedonians, staff, parents, friends of Reed’s and affiliated runners in the Marathon crossed the finish line safely and in great times, raising money for the Reed’s Foundation and many other deserving causes.

Huge thanks go to Jonathan Finnerty (staff), Jonny Wright (staff), Tanya Wimble (parent), Daniela Bassoumba (parent), Flaminia Martin (friend), Will Woodall (friend), Rosemary Tyler (friend), Tim Davey (OR) and Ben Blackledge (OR) who – between them – have raised £15,000 for the Foundation to date.

However, none of these friends would mind us giving a special mention to our own superhero, Jono Douthwaite – The Close Housemaster! As if running 26.2 miles in 24 degree heat wasn’t enough of a challenge, Jono completed the race in a 10kg full rhino suit, raising money - quite aptly - for Save the Rhino.

What was particularly special was that at the Assembly the following Monday the School community was able to come together to celebrate the incredible achievement of our teachers and colleagues, and to hear some inspiring words from Mr Finnerty, Mr Wright and Mr Douthwaite.  The key message conveyed was to view everything as an opportunity rather than a challenge – a good tenet for us all.
