Reed’s Jazz Hits The Hideaway for a simply phenomenal evening

Back

The jazz and rock musicians of Reed’s stunned an audience of 180 with the most professional of performances at the Hideaway Club, Streatham. A total of fifty pupils, from First to Sixth Form, displayed some rare talent from start to finish in a most inclusive evening.

The show opened with an accomplished cabaret band providing backing for a succession of sung solos and duets gleaned from the masters of swing, folk, and musicals, old and new. Then came the find of the evening: “Electric Sofa”, a five-piece Sixth Form band, who played three incredible original songs which they had composed. The teamwork, energy and musicality on display in the pieces and their execution were breathtaking. That band is going places!

Then the Jazz Orchestra hit the audience with a wall of sound at the start of the final set. Saxophones of all sizes, trumpets, trombones, guitars, keyboards and a rhythm section to die for busted out some chords and syncopation with enough pizzazz to be worthy of Ronnie Scott’s! They were joined by some of the earlier singers for a selection of classic numbers which set feet tapping. The audience was on its feet as one at the end of the show and left the club feeling uplifted and full of a sense of immense pride. A simply phenomenal evening!
