Rackets Cubed equals fun & learning!

Back

In September some 20 Year Six pupils from Ellingham Primary School in Chessington embarked on the inaugural Rackets Cubed programme here at Reed’s School.

This was a ten-week course which combined Mathematics lessons and squash coaching, one of the many outreach initiatives run through our Primary Forum.  Each week the pupils spent 45 minutes developing key skills from their Maths curriculum and 45 minutes being introduced to a sport that few had experienced before.

The pupils were a pleasure to work with and the progress they made was significant. Our last session culminated in a squash tournament between all the pupils with a final match of real quality.

Special thanks must go to Claire Baker from Surrey Squash’s County Coaching & Development team who did a wonderful job engaging all the pupils, to our Maths teacher, Terry Ha, and to our own Sixth Formers, Joe Crawshay, Simon Yeung, Richard Garcia and Spencer Hill, for giving up their Monday afternoons to help in the classroom and on the squash courts.
