What a fantastic way to learn the traditional craft of blacksmithing! The Product Design dept took a group of pupils to the Quinnell School of Blacksmithing at Rowhurst Forge for a day of practical metalworking. They were shown how to use a coke forge to heat steel to a bright orange glow before shaping it on an anvil and had demonstrations covering essential techniques such as drawing out, tapering, bending, and twisting, as well as the importance of accuracy and controlled hammer blows. After this each pupil had the opportunity to create a bespoke piece. Working individually under expert guidance, they experienced the physical demands of forging while developing patience, resilience, and precision. . #blacksmith #blacksmithing #cokeforge

Lower Sixth Computer Science students visited The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park, the historic home of British codebreaking, which houses the world’s largest collection of working historic computers, including operational replicas of the Bombe and Colossus. The students were given a behind-the-scenes guided tour that brought the history of computing vividly to life. They operated a working Enigma machine, discovered how the Lorenz (Tunny) cipher was broken using Colossus, and saw first-hand the scale and ingenuity of early electronic computing. The trip ended with students trying their luck on a 1990s pinball machine - a reminder of just how far (and how quickly) computing technology has evolved! . #TNMOC #bletchleypark #NationalMuseumOfComputing

The record 16-strong @reeds.golf squad embarked on their winter training camp at the wonderful @desertspringsresort over half term. Despite some strong winds, the spirits were high and a cracking week had by all! Thanks to all the fabulous staff at the resort for looking after the team so well, to @nbates92 and @clappwill for giving their time, and to @gregbrodiegolf for leading the world-class preparations and coaching! Well done to all the players - the first time for a lot of younger ones with us at a big event, and to individual winner Josh J, runner-up Zach P, who combined with Finlay F and Harvey C for the team win for the second year in a row! Bring on February 2027!

The Third Form (Y9) had a facscinating trip to Bletchley Park with the Maths Department today. They explored the history and importance of the Enigma code during the Second World War and investigated different aspects of codebreaking and the work carried out at Bletchley Park in the early 1940s. After a tour of the site, learning many interesting facts about the buildings and the people who worked there tirelessly during the war the boys also had the opportunity to attempt to decipher different codes, discover how the Enigma machine functions, and even try using one themselves during an interactive workshop! . #bletchleypark #CodeBreakers #EnigmaMachine

Tasked with interrogating their relatives and rummaging through their attics, our Third Form pupils pulled out all the stops to deliver some incredible family history projects, unearthing some amazing stories. Those who had delved the deepest into the family archives were given the honour of presenting their work to the enrapt staff members who took part in the gallery walk. From Olympic tennis players to internationally renowned spies, the exhibition had it all! . #history #familyhistory #historymatters

In the Sixth Form our varied and eclectic Elective Programme provides students with the opportunity to pursue a passion beyond their A Level subject choices. L6 Engineering students attended a workshop at University of Bath to build prototype designs of a 40m bridge. The session to make and test different ratios of cement to water proved very popular! As did testing each bridge by crushing them under a 3 Tonne crushing machine. One team's bridge was able to withstand the weight of Physics teacher, Mr Pope! The trip concluded with tour around the Bath, learning about the Roman Baths and the Georgian architecture, before meeting up with some Old Reedonians studying Engineering at Bath Uni. #bridgebuilding #industrialcadets #engineering #bathuni Old Reedonians, Reed's School

The Junior Production of Peter Pan last week was a real celebration of creativity and teamwork in a fresh and fast-paced new version by Evan Placey. So many pupils auditioned for the show that several lead roles were double-cast, meaning different performances took place on different nights, a clear sign of how strong the interest and standard were! Highlights included a genuinely scary crocodile, lively musical numbers with the pirates and Lost Boys, thrilling fight scenes, and a cleverly designed boat that delighted the audience. . #juniorproduction #peterpan #creativity #teamwork
