Lovely to start the new term by celebrating Organist and Music Teacher at Reed’s, Clive Osgood, who features in the latest edition of Musical Opinion magazine. They state: “…he’s a composer of today who is always chasing that elusive, alchemic element, all too rare in the new music world: melody. But his gift for writing memorable tunes never comes at the expense of a solid compositional process, and his technique has been honed from years of rigorous study and dedication.” True praise indeed! Having written Choral music since his mid-teens, Clive’s recordings are available from Convivium Records. He has 3 CD releases scheduled for 2025; his most recent, Magnificat, was given a 5-star reviews in the magazine by Robert Matthew-Walker who enthused, “Written as a companion-piece to Bach’s masterpiece, this is clearly the work of a genuinely gifted composer.” . #composer #organist

The Boarders' Christmas Dinner always heralds the start of the festivities at Reed's in preparation for a restful holiday. This year's was a lovely, family-orientated event which showed the best of our pupils and staff in the Reed's boarding family. Heads of Houses set a series of fun challenges throughout the evening. Mr Anderson's Chimney Challenge (a race to squeeze every member of the table through a cardboard chimney) was won by table 'Donner' who also won Mr Douthwaite's Gingerbread Decorating Challenge with their three-dimensional star which involved careful sawing and reassembly of their biscuit! Mr Rockett's challenge involving balloons, beanbags and towers of cups was such fun that no one can remember who actually won! Patrick, Raice, and John represented the three boarding houses, saying some deserved warm words about their Matrons, before the Heads of House were given a huge round of applause for all the time and love they give. The evening ended with a whole-room karaoke rendition of Feed the World, led with gusto by Mr Hoskins and Mr Atkins! Thanks was also given to our caterers, Independents at Sodexo, who a dessert servery which looked like something out of Wonka! . #christmasdinner #boarders #community

Thrilled to annouce that a group of Second Form pupils won THIRD PLACE in the prestigious Southampton University's Day of the Dead competition! One of the judges, the Mexican Ambassador, commented on the 'outstanding storytelling' used by the pupils in the video they worked so hard to make, independently getting together to do the research on this famous cultural event. An outstanding achievement against thousands of other participants across the UK! #thirdplacevictory #dayofthedead #mflcompetition

Forty U6 Psychologists visited the infamous Freud Museum to explore his house-turned-museum which contained various exciting attractions. An undisputed highlight was Freud’s study which housed his patients’ couch. This was the genesis of client-centred therapy and psychoanalysis and remains preserved in the same condition that it was in almost a century ago, transporting the students back to 1939 and allowing them to vividly imagine what it would have been like to be one of his patients! Through talks the students were able to develop their understanding of Freud’s different theories and leant about a case study integral to his research: the case of ‘Little Hans', and how many different desires and fears can ultimately manifest themselves as a phobia of something that is seemingly unrelated. An incredibly informative trip which will aid the students immensely in their A Level studies. . #freud #sigmundfreud #psychology

First Form pupils had a fantastic opportunity to connect with Shakespeare’s world during a visit to the Globe Theatre in London. First up was an engaging guided tour of this iconic theatre where pupils explored its history and gained insight into the theatrical traditions of Elizabethan England. Following this, pupils took part in a workshop led by a professional actor, focusing on the relationship between Claudio and Hero in Much Ado About Nothing, the text they are currently studying in their English lessons. The experience brought Shakespeare’s writing from page to the stage, deepening pupils' understanding of his language and themes in a fun and interactive way. . #globetheatre #shakespeare #immersion
