First Form pupils were treated to a reading of Michael Rosen's poems, No Breathing in Class, in the Library today as part of their World Book Day celebrations. Head of Library, Ms Horton, transformed the space into a school 'prison' and the boys had such fun reading along to this captivating piece of literature from one of the country's greatest childrens authors. . #MichaelRosen #nobreathinginclass #poetryforchildren #curiosity

At Reed's we like to celebrate World Book Day by allowing teaching departments to utilise their best dressing-up skills to entertain the pupils! This year produced an excellent variety of ideas: Maths teachers came as their favourite cook book chef; Geography was very topical with outfits depicting 'No more Rubbish Excuses' by Martin Dorey; the Physics dept all dressed up as characters from David Walliams books; Biology manged to scare everyone with their Addams family costumes and there were a plethora of sleuthes from Poirot to Miss Marple! Even the catering team got in on the act with outfits inspired by the prisoners in the kitchens in Paddington 2. Luckily the delicious lunch was better than the food in the film! . #worldbookday2024 #worldbookday #worldbookdaycostume

It was a brilliant visit last week @iop.lse @institute_of_physics to hear @drclarabarker speak about her work @oxford_uni developing and testing superconducting materials for #nuclearfusion reactors. A passionate and inspiring lecture which challenged our lower and upper sixth physicists to think beyond the scope of A-level. Always appreciate hearing from best-in-class scientists, legends of their own laboratories. A reminder also of the amazing collaboration of many nations and many thousands of scientists in the attempt to realise fusion power @ukaeaofficial @iter_organization

Amidst bacon sandwiches and pastries the Literary Lads Book Club met again in the Library before school. First Form pupils and a selection of parents shared their thoughts on aspects of the book they'd been reading, 'The Island of Whispers' by Frances Hardinge. Many expressed their appreciation for the poetic language and captivating illustrations; the coming-of-age plot and the portrayal of the relationship between Mylo and his father were also enjoyed. The next literary adventure will be provided by 'Goldfish Boy' by Lisa Thompson which follows the story of Matthew, who endeavours to solve a neighbourhood crime from the safety of his bedroom window. Can't wait to find out what the group thinks about it when they meet again next term! . #bookclub #bookreview #readingforpleasure

Our Chess Club sent 2 teams to the junior EFC schools’ regional competition at Dunnottar School. The competition was tough, but the first round went well for the Reed’s A team who won 3-1 with 2 wins and 2 draws. Reed’s B played very well, with a noteworthy game from Vince C who beat his opponent in the final round in 4 moves! As the opposition got stronger in each subsequent round the pupils had to pull out their best moves with differing success rates on each board. In round 3 all 8 players won their games. The tension made the event very exciting, and it was great to see the support given by the rest of the team! #chessgame #chessmoves #chessinschools #curiosity #ourvalues

#ThrowbackThursday to our Media trip to Disneyland Paris for students in the Lower Sixth. It wasn't all rides and parades though as the Study Experience on offer put them through their paces with a series of lectures and seminars based on the Disney brand. These culminated in an exciting marketing workshop in which the students were tasked with creating an advertising campaign for Disney specific products. They worked in teams to generate ideas and presented a variety of pitches to the auditorium. Alongside their project work the group enjoyed a trip to the Tower of Terror and meeting favourite childhood characters! . #brandawareness #disneylandparis #mediastudies
