A range of activities that are key for earning basic and 1-star Cadet awards were covered on the recent Fourth Form CCF exercise. On day 1 at Bradshott Common, a military training site on the A3 they participated in a round robin of activities such as first aid, navigation, and camouflage & concealment. Fieldcraft activities introduces the boys to a variety of new skills essential for the army cadet syllabus – importantly learning how to work together as a section and understand how to communicate effectively. On day 2 they focused on paintball and weapon-handling drills. During the paintball session, they learned about fire and manoeuvre tactics, the importance of communication, and how to work effectively as a team. Overall, an unforgettable experience! . #CCF #CCF2025 #firstaidtraining #navigation #fieldcraft #armycadets

Our Law Society is #activityoftheweek this week. It provides a platform to deepen understanding of legal principles, current issues, and the justice system. So far this term members have looked at circumstances that might supersede the laws outlined in the Human Rights Act – for example: is murder ok in the case of self-defence; should celebrities’ messages be kept private; should school-aged children be able to take part in campaigns and protests? Students have also gained valuable skills in public speaking, critical thinking, and argumentation, and the activities completed foster collaboration and intellectual curiosity. Plans for the rest of the term include looking at the intricacies of the court room and a talk from a solicitor. . #lawsociety #LegalPrinciples #justicesystem

Fourth Form Enterprise pupils took part in an Entrepirse for Good Day - crafting a set of new business ideas around the idea of community and ethical business practice. The aim was to develop socially conscious businesses capable of not only returning profits, but giving back to society in general. Ideas ranged from recycling plastic wastage into craft crates to healthy snack options and golf ball recycling. Groups worked through the complexities of business start-ups by compiling business plans which included financial forecasts, marketing plans, and operations. The runner-up group offered personalised clothing centred around school branding, and the winning group offered digital tutoring services for students with learning challenges. . #enterpriseforgood #Enterprise #ethicalbusinesspractices

A trip to Oxford was a real treat for the Junior Librarians to acknowledge all the time and effort they put into helping out in the Library. The pupils were awestruck by the wonderful architecture of the city and were lucky to enjoy a tour of Keble College, marvelling at its stained glass windows. The Bodleian Library was a highlight - they learnt that it holds over 14 million books with walls full to the top of bookshelves. At the Science Museum it was Einstein's blackboard and artefacts from the BBC's production of Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman that thrilled. The final stop was at one of the world's largest bookshops, Blackwell's. It expands out under the road with a basement, The Norrington Room, which has 3.5km of bookshelves! The boys marvelled at the sheer scale and variety of books on offer. . #juniorlibrarians #oxford #Blackwells #bodelian #einstein

The #activityoftheweek this week is Lunchtime Club with Nellie, our gorgeous therapy dog! This club provides a nurturing space designed to support emotional development, build confidence, and foster social connections across year groups. Pupils are helped to overcome fears through safe interaction with Nellie. They can also learn about communication and social cues (canine and human) helping them understand concepts like empathy, boundaries, and emotional regulation. Nellie loves learning new tricks for treats, promoting the principle of positive reinforcement, and being taken on walks allowing pupils to be responsibile and assess risk. This club is a joyful and enriching experience that supports emotional wellbeing, social development, and life skills - all wrapped up in the wag of a tail! . #therapydog #Nellie #cockerpoo #nuturing #andrewreedaward

Nerves were soon forgotten at the Model United Nations (MUN) conference held at Alleyn's School in Dulwich when students got involved in some fierce lobbying. Topics for the later debates ranged from post-colonial trade relationships across Africa to nuclear policy globally. It great to see Reed's students making such important contributions as well as proposing amendments in the final crisis debate. A fantastic experience for them! . #modelunitednations #modelunitednationsconference #debating

A visit to London for U6 Fine Art students took in two iconic museums: Tate Britain and Tate Modern. At Tate Britain, they viewed the work of Edward Burra, a renowned British artist who explored the urban underworld of the “Roaring Twenties” and the work of Ithell Colquhoun, a surrealist whose concepts come to life in an array of colour and abstraction. The immersive and intricate work of Do Ho Suh was expereinced at Tate Modern. His installation, which examines the complex relationship between architecture, the human form, space, memory and the moments that define us, served as a pivotal exhibition for our cohort. Finally, they had the privilege of seeing the Theatre Picasso exhibition, which celebrates the performative side of the artist’s life. A fantastic trip for our young, budding artists which certainly provided a rich source of material for their portfolios! . #arttrip #fineart #tatebritain #tatemodern
